Respiratory Protection Training will be offered by Larry Koughan of All-Tech Environmental Services on Wednesday, November 13 from 9:00-11:00 am in AVC 280N. This session will provide information regarding the care, selection, and use of respirators. Whether you currently have a respirator, or if you think you may need one for certain work tasks, then you should attend this session (annually). This is also an important educational opportunity for those who supervise work involving individuals who may need respiratory protection. There is no cost to attend this training as it is covered by the Health and Safety budget. To register for the training session, please contact Lacey Myers at ljmyers@upei.ca or 566-0605. Ms. Sara K. Tennant's Master of Arts - Island Studies thesis defense will take place in the Atlantic Veterinary College, Room 287 North on November 6 from 8:30-10:30am. The title of the thesis is: " 'Almost Islands': A Research Synthesis of Aboriginal Communities in Canada as Metaphorical Islands." All are welcome. 乐发IV will host a public meeting to release the findings and recommendations of the external review that was conducted to examine the Institute of Island Studies and its interconnectivity with other 乐发IV and community programs. Mike Randall of Engage Atlantic will lead a moderated discussion on each of the six categories of recommendations. 乐发IV students are going door to door to collect non-perishable food items on Thursday, October 31 from 4:15鈥7:00 pm in support of 乐发IV鈥檚 food bank. They will be visiting the following Charlottetown streets: Seaview Blvd, Cooper St, Atlantic St, Carvell St, Hunt Ave, Shell St, Westview St, Skyview St, and Hutchinson St. 鈥淭rick or Eat鈥 is a national Halloween food drive organized by Meal Exchange, a registered charity that empowers student leaders to address hunger in their communities. Since 1993, the charity has raised over $3 million worth of food and engaged over 87,000 youth across North America. Suggested items include: pasta products/pasta sauce, rice, canned meats and fish, peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, dry and canned soups, fruit juices, canned/powdered milk, baby food, diapers, beans, and legumes. Items can also be donated to the group organizers. All proceeds will support 乐发IV鈥檚 Food Bank. Interested in canvassing for the campaign? Dr. David Baranowski, Research Scientist, Delivra Inc. will present a seminar on Wednesday, October 30 at 12:30 pm. Dr. Baranowski鈥檚 presentation is entitled "From the benchtop towards the counter: The Application of Quantitative Methodologies in Pre-Clinical Product Optimization."
